Biography

Roland Lee Gift, born 28 May 1961 in West Birmingham, England, is a British singer, songwriter, saxophonist and actor. He began his musical journey as a saxophonist with Hull‑based ska group Akrylykz, which attracted the attention of Andy Cox and David Steele of The Beat; they recruited him as lead vocalist for the newly formed band Fine Young Cannibals. The group released their self‑titled debut Fine Young Cannibals in 1985, producing UK hits "Johnny Come Home" and a cover of "Suspicious Minds". Their 1989 album The Raw & the Cooked yielded US Number 1 singles "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing", and the band earned Brit Awards for Best British Group and Album in 1990. After the group disbanded, Roland Gift pursued a solo career, issuing the 2002 album Roland Gift and releasing "Everybody Knows It's Christmas" in 2025. Apart from music, Roland Gift has acted in film, television, and on stage, with roles in Tin Men, Scandal, and Highlander: The Series.
