MarÃa del RocÃo Banquells Núñez, widely known as RocÃo Banquells, is an accomplished Mexican singer, actress, and politician. She was born on June 22, 1958, in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León. As the child of the actor and director Rafael Banquells and actress Dina de Marco, RocÃo Banquells was raised in a family deeply immersed in the arts. She initiated her acting career at the tender age of 10, making her debut in a play directed by her father. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, RocÃo Banquells participated in an array of musicals such as Grease, Evita, and Jesus Christ Superstar while also starring in the popular telenovelas Los Ricos También Lloran, Bianca Vidal, and La Fiera. Simultaneously, she embarked on a professional singing career with the release of her debut album, RocÃo Banquells, in 1985. This led to several other successful albums, such as Con Ãl (1986) and Entrega Total (1987), with the latter notably featuring traditional ranchera music. RocÃo Banquells' music achieved widespread popularity in Mexico and across Latin America. Her songs "Este Hombre No Se Toca," "Luna Mágica," and "Abrázame" from her 1985 eponymous studio debut, became universally recognized hits. Nine years after the release of her 1998 album Recuerdos de un Sentimiento, RocÃo Banquells made a triumphant return to music in 2007 with a live double album, Nacà Para Ti, recorded at Teatro de la Ciudad. Aside from her prolific accomplishments in performing arts, RocÃo Banquells ventured into politics, winning a seat in the Mexican Congress in 2021 and balancing her political responsibilities with her ongoing careers in music and acting.
