Biography

La Oreja de Van Gogh are a Spanish pop band that grew out of a group called Los Sin Nombre, formed in the Basque Country in the mid 1990s by keyboard player Xabi San Martín, guitarist Pablo Benegas, bassist Álvaro Fuentes and drummer Haritz Garde who then recruited singer Amaia Montero. Victory in a local music contest led to their first EP and in 1998 their debut album, 'Dile al Sol'. They followed with 'El Viaje de Copperpot' (2000) and 'Lo Que Te Conte Minetras Te Hacias La Dormida' (2004), which went to went to number two on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums Chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Latin Pop Album. The track 'Puedes Contar Conmigo' from that album reached number three on Billboard's Latin Pop Songs Chart, 'Rosas' hit number four and 'Deseos De Coas Imposibles' peaked at number ten. 'La Oreja De Van Gogh En Directo' (2004) and 'Guapa' (2006) reached number three on the Latin Pop Albums Chart and then Amaia Montero quit the band. Basque singer Leire Martínez signed on and in 2008 'LOVG: Grandes Exitos' peaked at number ten on the Latin Pop Albums Chart, 'A Las Cinco En El Astoria' (2008) hit number seven, 'Primera Fila' (2013) number 20 and 'El Planeta Imaginero' (2016) number six. Their 2018 schedule included appearances in Chile and Argentina.
