Biography

Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock were an East Coast hip-hop duo from Harlem, New York City. Rob Base (born Robert Ginyard) and DJ E-Z Rock (born Rodney "Skip" Bryce) formed the group in the mid-1980s. Their first US single, "DJ Interview", drummed up hype and led to a recording contract with Profile Records in 1987. The duo's breakthrough came with their 1988 hit "It Takes Two", which sampled James Brown and Lyn Collins' song "Think (About It)". The track became a regional hit before working its way up the Billboard Hot 100, eventually earning multi-platinum certification from the RIAA. The group's debut album, It Takes Two, was released in August 1988 and also awarded platinum status. The LP included notable follow-up hits such as "Joy and Pain" and "Get On the Dance Floor", both of which performed well on dance charts. In 1989, Rob Base released his debut solo album, The Incredible Base. DJ E-Z Rock passed away on 27 April 2014, at the age of 46, due to complications from diabetes.
