La'Porsha Renae Mays, known professionally as La'Porsha Renae, is an American singer born on August 1, 1993, in McComb, Mississippi. At age 16, she auditioned for the tenth season of American Idol. After graduating from college, she returned to American Idol for its fifteenth season in 2015, finishing as runner-up behind Trent Harmon. Following her appearance on American Idol, La'Porsha Renae signed with Big Machine, Motown, and 19 Recordings. Her debut single, âBattles,â reached number 22 on the US R&B Digital Songs chart, and a remix titled âGold Medal Mixâ became the official song for the United States Womenâs Gymnastics Team during the 2016 Summer Olympics. On March 31, 2017, she released her debut album Already All Ready. After releasing a single in 2019, La'Porsha Renae went on an extended hiatus, later returning under the stage name A.S.E. to release a four-part album series in 2022.
