Biography
Sven Johan Reinhold Svensson, also known as Reinhold Svensson, born on December 20, 1919, in Husum, Sweden, was a blind jazz pianist and composer. He began his musical journey as a piano tuner, graduating in 1939, and later studied at the Musikhochschule Stockholm, where he earned an organist degree in 1941. Svensson's career took off when he started playing with dance bands before forming his own orchestra from 1942 to 1948. In 1948, he collaborated with Putte Wickman and performed at the Festival International de Jazz in 1949. He formed a quintet modeled after George Shearing's group in 1950 and accompanied Toots Thielemans in 1960. Svensson contributed to the film score of Ingmar Bergmanâs Sommaren med Monika (1953) and released notable albums such as Piano Favorites. Volume Two (1952). He also recorded under the pseudonyms Ralph & Bert Mountain, Olson Brothers, and Ragtime Reinhold. Svensson passed away on November 23, 1968, in FinspÃ¥ng, Sweden.
