Biography

Instantly recognizable for her viral hit song "Friday" back in 2011, Internet phenomenon Rebecca Black (June 21, 1997) has been somewhat of an enigmatic figure in the world of pop music. Written by music producers Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson, "Friday" reached Number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to sell 442,000 copies. Despite having been extensively ridiculed by music critics and viewers, the song gained Rebecca Black wide media coverage, including a performance at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, a cover version in American music comedy-drama Glee, and several Internet parodies. After a legal dispute with her label over the rights of the song, she started her own independent label, RB records. Following the success of “Friday,” she released the singles “My Moment,” “Person of Interest,” “Sing It,” and “In Your Words” between 2011 and 2012. In late 2013, Rebecca Black released her sequel to "Friday," the aptly-titled “Saturday,” which reached Number 55 on Billboard Hot 100. There wouldn’t be any new music from the teenage pop star until 2016, when she released the single “The Great Divide,” which peaked at Number 23 in the US Dance charts. 2017 would find the young artist with a new EP under her belt, RE / BL, which included "The Great Divide" plus three other songs released that same year. She followed up with the 2019 "Anyway," "Do You," and "Sweetheart," all of which failed to chart in the US. After releasing the 2020 singles “Self Sabotage,” “Closer,” and “Alone Together,” Rebecca Black made headlines again in 2021 with a remix of her signature track “Friday,” featuring 3OH!3, Big Freedia, and Dorian Electra.
