Ras Sparrow is the stage name of Venezuelan reggae and dub musician, singer, songwriter, and producer Eloy A. Carrero, born in Caracas on July 16, 1976, and raised in Miami, whose work blends traditional roots reggae with dub production and Rastafarian spiritual themes. He began recording independently in the early 2000s, developing his sound as a multi-instrumentalist and producer before releasing his debut album Sovereign People in 2007, recorded off-grid in Hawaiâi using solar-powered equipment. In 2010, he gained wider recognition with the release of "Zion Town," recorded as part of the duo Ras & Queen Sparrow, which became his most widely known recording and established his presence within the international roots reggae community. He continued expanding his dub production approach with releases such as 12 in Digital Dub Mixes (2013), created using mobile recording setups while living in Venezuela, reflecting his independent production philosophy. After relocating to Santiago, Chile, he founded Ras Sparrow Records and began touring internationally alongside his wife and musical partner La Makeda, performing in Brazil and sharing stages with artists including The Wailers, Alpha Blondy, Groundation, and Midnite. He later released Dub in Stone (2022), a studio album focused on analog-inspired dub techniques, and remained active through live dub performances and new recordings, including live looper interpretations of songs such as "Seek Jah First," continuing to develop his hybrid approach combining live instrumentation, dub mixing, and roots reggae songwriting.
