Ignasi Terraza, born on July 14, 1962, in Barcelona, Spain, is a pianist known for his contributions to jazz. At age nine, he lost his sight and began playing the piano, developing an affinity for improvisation and jazz. He studied classical piano at the Conservatory of Barcelona while teaching himself jazz. In 1980, Terraza started performing in local clubs and attended the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, becoming the first blind person in Spain to earn a degree in Computer Science. By 1991, he dedicated himself fully to music, forming various groups with a distinctive swing style. Notable collaborations include work with Frank Wess, Lou Donaldson, Benny Golson, John Faddis, and Jesse Davis. Terraza's Ignasi Terraza Trio has released eight albums and toured extensively across Europe, South America, the United States, and East Asia. In 2009, he won the Jacksonville International Jazz Piano Competition in the United States.
