Germain Randrianarisoa, known professionally as Rajery, was born in 1964 in Ambohimanga, Madagascar. A singer and valiha player from the Merina ethnic group, Rajery lost the use of his right hand's fingers at a young age and had to be amputated. At fifteen, he began playing the valiha, a traditional bamboo tube harp. His international career started in 1999 with the release of Dorotanety. In 2002, Rajery won the RFI Musique du Monde award. He released several albums including Fanamby (2001), Volontany (2004), and Sofera (2007). His unique style of playing the valiha has renewed the instrument's repertoire, and his songs often describe Malagasy daily life. Rajery collaborated with Driss El Maloumi and Ballaké Sissoko on projects like 3 MA (2008) and Anarouz (2017). His work has been featured in films such as Hiragasy -To tragoudi tis Madagaskaris (2007) and Le prince de Valiha (2013).
