Biography
Queensland Symphony Orchestra, based in Brisbane, Australia, was established in 1947. The orchestra began with 45 musicians under the direction of Percy Code and John Farnsworth Hall as its first Chief Conductor. Initially touring extensively across Queensland, the QSO's early years saw significant contributions from conductors such as Rudolf Pekárek (1954â1967) and Muhai Tang (1991â2001). In 2001, the orchestra merged with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra to form The Queensland Orchestra. Notable Chief Conductors during this period included Michael Christie (2001â2004), Johannes Fritzsch (2008â2014), and Alondra de la Parra, who served as the orchestra's first female Music Director from 2017 to 2019. Fritzsch later returned as Principal Conductor in 2021. The QSO has a rich discography, including works by Tchaikovsky and Benjamin Frankel. The orchestra has performed regularly at venues such as the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and toured extensively throughout Queensland.
