Gaspard Fritz, born on February 18, 1716, in Geneva, Switzerland, was a violinist and composer active during the preclassical period. He began his musical training under his father and later studied with Giovanni Battista Somis in Turin. By age twenty, he returned to Geneva and married in April 1737. Fritz's career included a tour in Paris in 1756 and a performance for Voltaire in 1759. His reputation extended beyond Geneva, as evidenced by correspondences from Charles Burney and interactions with figures like Handel and Locatelli. Between 1742 and 1772, he published six opus works in Paris and London, including Concerto a 5 and Sei sonate a quattro stromenti, Opus 1. Fritz's compositions also include Sei sinfonie a piu strumenti, Opus 6. He died on March 23, 1783, in Geneva.
