Biography

Quartet San Francisco, an eclectic, non-traditional string quartet led by violinist Jeremy Cohen, played their first concert in 2001. The group's journey challenged traditional classical foundations, spanning various music genres including jazz, blues, tango, swing, funk, and pop. Their first album, Látigo, was released in 2006, followed by Whirled Chamber Music in 2007. The quartet won a tango music competition in New York in 2004 and received five Grammy Award nominations: three for Best Classical Crossover Album and two for Best Engineered Album, Classical. Notable members included Matthew Szemela, who joined in 2012 and collaborated with artists such as Nina Nastasia and Jay-Z, and Chad Kaltinger, who became a violist with the quartet in 2012. The group's discography included QSF Plays Brubeck (2009) and Pacific Premieres: New Works by California Composers (2013).
