Anthony Coleman, born on August 30, 1955 in New York, is an American jazz pianist and composer. He began studying piano at age 13 with Jaki Byard and later attended the New England Conservatory of Music. Coleman's career took off in the 1980s and 1990s when he collaborated extensively with John Zorn on projects such as Cobra, Kristallnacht, and The Big Gundown. His debut solo album, Disco by Night, was released in 1992. Throughout his career, Coleman has explored his Jewish heritage through albums like Sephardic Tinge (1995) and Selfhaters (1996). He has collaborated with notable artists including Elliott Sharp, Dave Douglas, and Marc Ribot.
