Quarashi is an Icelandic rap rock ensemble from ReykjavÃk established in 1996. The ensemble was founded by Hössi Ãlafsson, Sölvi Blöndal, and Steinar Orri Fjeldsted. Their recording career began with the debut extended play Switchstance (1996) followed by the debut eponymous studio recording Quarashi (1997) which reached gold status in Iceland. The ensemble released the studio recording Xeneizes (1999) which also achieved gold status. In 2000, Quarashi signed a contract with the label Columbia Records. Their recording career included the studio recording Jinx (2002) which featured the single "Stick 'Em Up". The song reached number 27 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and appeared in the movie Orange County (2002). The ensemble was dropped by their label in 2004 and became inactive in 2005 following a final concert in Akureyri. Quarashi achieved professional recognition for resuming activity in 2016 and releasing the single "Chicago" (2016).
