Joel Turner (born 3 March 1987 in Mullumbimby, Australia) is an Australian beatboxer, singer and record producer. Growing up in Acacia Ridge, Joel Turner began using his mouth to create rhythms at age seven, later developing a signature “third voice” and bass guitar sounds that would define his early work. His breakthrough came with the 2004 single "These Kids", which peaked on the Australian singles chart at Number 1 and earned a platinum certification for the self‑titled album Joel Turner and the Modern Day Poets (2004). Joel Turner followed with the 2006 single "All Night Long" and the 2007 studio album Out of the Box, both released through Hardwax and featuring collaborations with De La Soul, C4 and KNO. He toured extensively, supporting acts such as Ice‑T and De La Soul, and performed at major festivals including the Big Day Out and the Melbourne International Music Festival. Joel Turner was awarded the Beatbox Battle World Championship in 2005 and retained the title until 2009, a record that highlighted his prominence in the beatboxing community. In 2007 he released "City of Dreams", which was nominated for the APRA Urban Work of the Year. After a period of reduced public activity, Joel Turner announced new music in 2019 and released the single "Mullet" on 19 August 2022, continuing his contribution to Australian hip‑hop and beatboxing.
