Formed in Hollywood, California in 1988, Nitro was a hard rock band founded by vocalist Jim Gillette and guitarist Michael Angel Batio. Musically, Nitro was harder, heavier, and louder than most of the other âhair metalâ bands in Hollywood. They originally joined forces to work on Gilletteâs 1987 solo album Proud to be Loud, but soon realized that they should form a band together. In 1988, they brought in drummer Bobby Rock and bassist T.J. Racer and Nitro was born. Their debut album, O.F.R. (Out-Fucking-Rageous), was released in 1989. Rock and Racer left the band shortly after, leaving Gillette and Batio as the sole members of the band. Their rhythm section changed a few times before the band released their sophomore album, Nitro II: H.W.D.W.S. (Hot, Wet, Drippinâ with Sweat), in 1992. Gillette and Batio planned a third Nitro album and had recorded demos but they broke up in 1993. A collection of demos and rarities entitled Gunninâ For Glory was released in 1999. In 2016, Gillette and Batio announced that they had reformed Nitro and were working on new material. However, by 2019, the band split up again without releasing any recordings.
