Antonis Xylouris, known professionally as Psarantonis, was born in 1937 in Anogeia, Crete, Greece. He is a lyre player and songwriter, coming from a family of professional musicians. Psarantonis began playing the lyre at age 13 and released his first recording, "Eskéftika na s'arnithó", in 1964. Throughout his career, he has released numerous albums, including Kritiki Xasteria (1973), I Mahi Tis Kritis (1976), and Mountain Rebels (2008). Psarantonis has represented Greece in various international festivals. In 2005, he performed at the Town Hall in New York for the World Music Institute's 20th anniversary. He participated in the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Minehead, UK, in 2007, and again in 2009 when the festival was curated by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Psarantonis is notable for his distinctive voice and lyre playing style, and he has contributed to albums by other artists, such as Daemonia Nymphe's Krataia Asterope (2007).
