Project Trio, a chamber music ensemble based in Brooklyn, New York, was formed in 2005 and consisted of Greg Pattillo on flute, Eric Stephenson on cello, and Peter Seymour on double bass. The members met while students at the Cleveland Institute of Music and later conceived the idea to start a classical chamber music group that would incorporate elements of jazz and rock. In February 2007, Greg Pattillo's viral video showcasing his unique style of mixing beatbox with flute garnered wide attention and led to Peter Seymour moving to New York City to join Greg Pattillo and Eric Stephenson. Their first album, Winter in June, was released in 2007, followed by tours across the United States and internationally. Project Trio has performed at notable venues including the Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, SXSW, and Carnegie Hall.
