Praying Mantis is an English rock ensemble from London established in 1973. The group was founded by the musicians Chris Hudson, Pete Moore, Chris Troy, and Tino Troy. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by melodic hard rock and heavy metal. Their recording career began with the inclusion of the track "Captured City" in the compilation recording Metal for Muthas (1980). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the debut studio recording Time Tells No Lies (1981) and the track "Cheated" (1981) which reached number 69 in the United Kingdom. They became inactive in 1982 but resumed activity in 1990. Their discography included the live recording Live at Last (1990) and the studio recording Predator in Disguise (1991). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording To the Power of Ten (1995) and the studio recording Sanctuary (2009). The group consists of the musicians Andy Burgess, John Cuijpers, Chris Troy, Tino Troy, and Hans in't Zandt. Their recording career included the studio recording Legacy (2015), the studio recording Gravity (2018), and the studio recording Defiance (2024).
