Pray for the Soul of Betty, often abbreviated as PFTSOB, was a post-grunge hard rock band from New York City. Formed in 2003, the group consisted of Michael Hamboussi on drums, João Joya on guitar, Taylor C.R. on bass, and Constantine Maroulis as lead vocalist. The band's name originated from the death of their bassist's aunt Betty. After over 150 auditions, Maroulis was added as the lead vocalist in 2003. PFTSOB gained national attention when Maroulis auditioned for American Idol (season 4) in 2005, advancing to the final six contestants. In May 2005, they signed a distribution deal with Koch Records, releasing their eponymous debut album Pray for the Soul of Betty, which reached number 129 on the Billboard 200 and number 7 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart. Maroulis announced his departure from the band in March 2006, leading to its official disbandment that May.
