Biography

The hard rock band Messer was formed in 2010 by vocalist Dereak Messer, bassist Maddox Messer, lead guitarist Javier Contreras, drummer Kenny Youngar, and rhythm guitarist Donnie Deville. Based in Dallas, Texas, the group spent a half-dozen years sharpening its sound before releasing a debut single, "Simple Man," in 2016. "Simple Man" proved to be a commercial hit, peaking at Number 23 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart and increasing public demand for Messer's full-length debut album. A self-titled record, Messer, was released two years later by MaddPants Records, featuring production from Chad Gendason. While playing shows on the Vans Warped Tour in support of Messer's release, the band catapulted another song up the Mainstream Rock chart, with "Make This Life" peaking at Number 28. More touring followed in 2019, including a string of American songs alongside Creed's frontman, Scott Stapp. Although the Covid-19 pandemic put a temporary halt to Messer's busy touring schedule, the group returned to the mainstream in 2022 with the single "Hope In This World," which climbed to Number 40. The song marked Messer's first hit charting hit in four years, as well as the first release from the band's full-length follow-up to 2018's Messer.
