Point Blank was an American rock band from Irving, Texas. Formed in 1974, the group consisted of Rusty Burns and Kim Davis on guitar, Phillip Petty on bass, John O'Daniel on vocals, and Richard Heaton on drums. The band's initial breakthrough came with their debut album Point Blank, released in November 1976. Point Blank was discovered and managed by Bill Hamâs Lone Wolf Productions, which also managed ZZ Top and Eric Johnson. The band recorded six albums between 1974 and 1982, garnering occasional airplay on AOR radio stations. Their sound evolved from southern rock and boogie to hard rock and mainstream AOR by the early 1980s. In November 1981, they released their fifth album American Exce$$, which included the hit single "Nicole". The track reached Number 20 on Billboard Magazine's Rock Tracks and peaked at Number 39 on Billboardâs Hot 100. Point Blank disbanded in 1983. In late 2009, they released their first studio album in 27 years, Fight On! Guitarist Kim Davis died in October 2010, followed by Rusty Burns in February 2016 and John O'Daniel in November 2018. Richard Heaton is the last living original member of Point Blank.
