Plastic Penny, a British pop rock group formed in November 1967, was composed of vocalist Brian Keith (born Brian O'Shea), keyboardist/guitarist Paul Raymond (born Paul Martin Raymond), guitarist Mick Graham (born Michael Grabham), drummer Nigel Olsson (born Peter Nigel Olsson), and bassist Tony Murray (born Anthony Murray). The band's debut single "Everything I Am" was released in December 1967, marking their breakthrough moment. This slow ballad, originally recorded by the Box Tops, reached number six on the UK Singles Chart and number 30 in Canada. Their first album, Two Sides Of A Penny, followed in April 1968. The group's output was characterized by psychedelic pop with prog rock leanings, primarily written by Keith, Raymond, and Murray. Plastic Penny appeared at the inaugural Isle of Wight Festival on August 31, 1968, and released their second album, Currency, in February 1969. Despite follow-up singles like "Nobody Knows It" failing to replicate the success of "Everything I Am", the band's third and final album, Heads I Win - Tails You Lose, was issued in April 1970 after their disbandment. The group's members went on to notable careers; Keith became lead vocalist with The Congregation, Raymond joined Savoy Brown and UFO, Graham played with Cochise and Procol Harum, Olsson became Elton Johnâs drummer, and Murray played with The Troggs.
