Hailing from Albertslund, Denmark, Phlake is a multi-platinum R&B band formed in 2015 by producer Jonathan Elkær and vocalist Mads Bo. Prior to Phlake's emergence, Elkær had established his production skills by creating beats for the chart-topping Danish hip-hop group Suspekt. He enjoyed similar success with Phlake, whose first single, "Pregnant," became a Number 9 hit on Denmark's Hitlisten chart in 2025. One year later, the follow-up single "Angel Zoo" charted at Number 3. Both songs appeared on the duo's debut album, Slush Hours, which was released in 2016 and peaked at Number 4 in Denmark. Slush Hours remained in the Danish Top 20 for two years, climbed its way to double-platinum status, and won the band five Dansk Grammy Awards, including "Best Danish Album." A second album, the gold-certified Weird Invitations, was released in 2017 and topped the Danish charts, with "IKEA Episodes" marking the band's third Top 40 hit. After teaming up with Mercedes the Virus for a collaborative album, The Illegal Download of Your Soul, which charted at Number 4 in 2020, Phlake returned in 2021 with "Vendetta." A Top 40 success, the song peaked at Number 36 and marked the first release from the duo's third full-length record.
