Philiae, a German progressive rock band from Hamburg, was founded in 1999 by singer and guitarist Chris Harms. The group initially included keyboardist Patrick Debus, guitarist Gidge, bassist Ace, and drummer Hangman. In mid-2000, they recorded their first demo CD, Demolition Christ. After disbanding briefly in 2001, Harms reformed the band with new members including bassist Alex Frank and guitarist John Keffer. Their debut album, Scapegod, released in 2003, garnered critical acclaim from the magazine Zillo. In early 2005, Harms left due to artistic differences, replaced by singer Guido Maria Kober. Patrick Debus returned as keyboardist, and they released the EP The Dawn of a New Error in 2006. The band's second album, Propaganda, was released in June 2007 under their own label Philiae Records and became their most successful album. They toured extensively across Germany, supporting acts like Jesus on Extasy and Die Krupps.
