Biography
Peter Franklyn Bellamy was an English folk singer who was born in 1944. He achieved professional recognition as a founding member of the trio The Young Tradition alongside Royston Wood and Heather Wood. The ensemble is famous for performing traditional songs in close harmony and released three studio albums before disbanding in 1969. Bellamyâs solo discography includes the studio recordings Mainly Norfolk (1968), Fair Englandâs Shore (1968), and Oak Ash and Thorn (1970). He is noted for his ballad-opera The Transports (1977), which received critical acclaim as the folk record of the year. Bellamy also produced several albums based on the works of Rudyard Kipling, notably Barrack Room Ballads of Rudyard Kipling (1975). His posthumous releases include the compilation Wake the Vaulted Echoes (1999). He died in 1991.
