Biography

JosÃ© SÃ¡nchez GÃ³mez, known professionally as Pepe de LucÃa, was born in 1945 in Algeciras, Andalusia, Spain. He began his career as a flamenco singer alongside his brother, guitarist Paco de LucÃa, forming the duo Los Chiquitos de Algeciras, which won the Special Jury Prize at the International Flamenco Contest in Jerez de la Frontera in 1962. Pepe de LucÃa continued to collaborate with his brother and worked with notable figures such as dancer JosÃ© Greco and wrote lyrics for artists like CamarÃ³n de la Isla. He produced albums for various flamenco artists, including Capullo de Jerez and La Macanita. Notable releases include El orgullo de mi padre (1996) and Los hijos de LuzÃa (1999). Pepe de LucÃa received the Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album in 2003 for El corazÃ³n de mi gente.
