People In Planes were a Welsh alternative rock band formed in 1998 in Porthcawl by Gareth Jones, Pete Roberts, Kris Blight, John Maloney, and later Ian Russell. The group began as Robots in the Sky, released a 7" vinyl in 2000, then changed to Tetra Splendour, signing to Wishakismo and issuing the album Splendid Animation in 2002 while touring with Fun Lovin' Criminals and Biffy Clyro and playing Reading Festival. After being dropped by EMI, they adopted the name People In Planes in 2005, released the single "Talking Heads" (later "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)"), and signed to WindâUp Records. Their debut album As Far as the Eye Can See came out on 28 March 2006, and the single "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)" reached number 33 on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock chart. Subsequent releases included the EP People in Planes (2005), the album Beyond the Horizon (2008), and the digital EP Gung Ho For Info (2009). The band toured the United States opening for Blue October and The Toadies, contributed tracks to the John Tucker Must Die soundtrack, and had songs featured in television series such as House and The 4400. After a period of limited activity, People In Planes announced a breakup in 2013, concluding a 15âyear career that saw them chart in the U.S. and secure a place in earlyâ2000s alternative rock.
