Biography

Pele, formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, emerged in 1997 with guitarist Chris Rosenau, bassist Scott Schoenbeck, and drummer Jon Mueller, all active until the group’s dissolution in 2004. In 1998, Pele released the EPs Teaching the History of Teaching Geography and People Living With Animals. Animals Kill People, followed by Elephant (1999) and The Nudes (2000) on Polyvinyl Records, solidifying their presence on the indie circuit. The 2002 album Enemies expanded their catalog before the band announced its final winter 2004 tour, after which members pursued projects such as The Promise Ring, Paris, Texas, and Volcano Choir. Pele reunited in 2014 with Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, and Matt Tennessen, supporting American Football at a 2014 New Year’s Eve show and performing a Milwaukee concert in 2015.
