Biography

Born in São Paulo in 1966, Luciana Souza developed a passion for singing from an early age. A brilliant student in musical matters, as attested by diplomas from Berklee College of Music and Boston's New England Conservatory, she taught before moving into the studio, first as an accompanist (Hermeto Pascoal, Danilo Perez, Bob Moses), then as a soloist from 1999 onwards. Her style, in which her Brazilian roots blend with jazz in small ensembles, and her ease with scat, dazzled the critics, who praised the albums The New Bossa Nova (2007), Tide (2009) and three duets nominated for Grammy Awards, on which the singer proved unlucky: Brazilian Duos (2002), Duos II (2005) and Duos III (2012), released after a tribute to Chet Baker. In 2015, the wife of musician and producer Larry Klein published Speaking in Tongues.
