Manfredo Irmin Fest, born on May 13, 1936, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, was a pianist known for his contributions to jazz and bossa nova. His father, also a pianist, taught him classical music, but by age 17, Fest was drawn to the works of George Shearing and Bill Evans. He graduated from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in 1961 and began performing in bars and clubs. In 1963, he released his debut album Bossa Nova, Nova Bossa. Throughout the 1970s, Fest traveled to the United States, collaborating with Sérgio Mendes and recording albums like Manifestations (1978). He worked with various groups, including Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Manfredo Irmin Fest passed away on October 8, 1999, at the age of 63 due to liver failure.
