Biography
Peggi Blu, born on May 26, 1945 in Lumberton, North Carolina, was an American singer who began her career at a young age. She started singing professionally after moving to New York City with her uncle Bishop Walter L. Benton and his choir. Her first session work as a background singer began in 1973 on Archie Shepp's The Cry of My People. In 1980, Blu signed her first major label contract with MCA Records, releasing her debut album I Got Love that same year. She gained significant recognition in 1986 as the Star Search Grand Champion (Female Vocalist) and released her second album Blu Blowin' the following year on Capitol Records, which produced two minor R&B/hip hop hits "Tender Moments" and "All the Way with You". Blu died on May 19, 2024.
