Biography

The Hesitations are an American R&B group formed in 1965 in Cleveland, Ohio. Their original lineup included George “King” Scott, Leonard Veal, and Fred Deal. The group's breakthrough came with the single “Soul Superman” (1966) on Kapp Records, which reached number 42 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. In 1967, they released their debut album, Soul Superman. The following year, their single “Born Free” (1968), backed with “Love Is Everywhere” (1967), reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. This hit was followed by the album The New Born Free (1968) and the single “The Impossible Dream” (1968), which reached number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. After George “King” Scott was accidentally shot and killed in February 1968, the group disbanded. The Hesitations regrouped in 2006 with new members, and they returned to performing and touring.
