Paul van Kemenade, born on May 17, 1957, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, is a Dutch saxophonist and bandleader known for his work in modern creative jazz. He began playing the saxophone at age 13 and studied at the Conservatorium of Tilburg while performing with his own group and composing music. In 1982, van Kemenade founded the Paul van Kemenade Quintet, releasing their debut album Call in 1984. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with various artists including Alexander von Schlippenbach, Aki Takase, and Louis Moholo. Notable albums include Hot Koko (1985), Freeze! (2001), and No Way Station (2007). He received the Podium Prijs from the Dutch Jazz Foundation in 1984 and the Boy-Edgar Prize in 1999.
