Cristovão da Silva Bastos Filho, also known as Cristóvão Bastos, was born on December 3, 1946, in Brazil and is a pianist, composer, arranger, and songwriter. He began his career in the 1970s, working as a songwriter, arranger, and pianist. In 1992, Bastos released Bons Encontros, his first album as a primary artist in collaboration with Marco Pereira. He was the pianist and arranger for Dionne Warwickâs 1994 album Aquarela do Brasil. His debut solo album, Avenida Brasil, followed in 1996. Bastos contributed to Barbra Streisandâs 1999 song âLetâs Start Right Now,â which is based on his composition. Throughout his career, Bastos has collaborated with numerous artists, including Maria Bethânia, Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Ivan Lins, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, and Paulinho da Viola. His achievements include a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Album in 2021 (Cristovão Bastos e Rogério Caetano) and six Brazilian Music Awards, recognizing his work as a performer, arranger, and songwriter.
