Particle, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 2000, initially consisted of Dave Simmons (guitar), Steve Molitz (keyboard), Eric Gould (bass), and Darren Pujalet (drums). Shortly after formation, Simmons died due to a sudden illness. Guitarist Charlie Hitchcock joined the group, which became known for blending rock, jazz, funk, and electronica into livetronica. The band gained attention with energetic late-night festival sets, including a five-hour performance at Bonnaroo in 2003. They released their debut album Launchpad in 2004, followed by the EP Launchpad Remixes in November of the same year. In April and May 2005, Particle toured with Mickey Hart as Hydra. The band's first European tour took place later that year. Controversy arose when Hitchcock was dismissed from the group in late 2005. Ben Combe and Scott Metzger joined on guitars and vocals, leading to the release of Transformation Live: For the People in July 2006.
