Paramaecium was an Australian death-doom metal ensemble formed in 1990 in Melbourne. Established by Andrew Tompkins, the group released its first demo, Silent Carnage, in 1991. The debut studio recording, Exhumed of the Earth, appeared in 1993. The ensemble followed with the album Within the Ancient Forest in 1995, which was accompanied by a novel written by Tompkins. Its discography included the EP Repentance (1997) and the recordings A Time to Mourn (1999) and Echoes from the Ground (2004). The groupâs music incorporated orchestral elements such as soprano vocals and violins. In 2006, the ensemble renamed itself inExordium and released an eponymous studio recording in 2008. The group remained active until its dissolution in 2013. The ensemble's lyrical themes were noted for their focus on Christian theology and the life of Jesus Christ.
