Formed in Calgary in 2005, Outlaws of Gravenhurst are a Canadian power trio of medieval-themed progressive hard rock, known for their concept albums blending fantasy storytelling, heavy metal and progressive rock. The idea for the band was born in Cologne, Germany, after reading theheroic fantasy book by Sister M. Imelda Wallace, which inspired Ken Murdoch Jr. (vocals, guitar) and Dan D'Agostino (bass) to form the band. After recruiting drummer Gabe Antal, the band's debut album, Book I, was released in 2011. Funded via Kickstarter, the concept is set in the medieval period, and has won over specialist critics. Outlaws of Gravenhurst, who also contributed to the soundtrack of the film Lloyd the Conqueror (2011), released the single "Wizard's Night" in 2013, followed by the album Book II, which extended the concept of the previous album. In February 2018, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their first concert, the band hired guitarist Skyler Mills (ex-W.M.D.), who took part in the recording of their third album, Myths & Legends, released on the last day of 2019. A fixture at metal festivals, where musicians appear in medieval knight outfits, Outlaws of Gravenhurst release their fourth album Krampusnacht in 2023, featuring "John Cage's Unreleased Christmas Carol", a hard rock version of the American composer's famous "4' 33".
