Biography
The Oslo String Quartet is a Norwegian chamber ensemble formed in 1991 by violinists Geir Inge Lotsberg and Per Kristian Skalstad, violist Are Sandbakken, and cellist Ãystein Sonstad. The group achieved international recognition in 1994 as prize winners at the London International String Competition. They have performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall and received the Prize of the Norwegian Association of Composers in 1998. The ensembleâs recording of Carl Nielsen's quartets earned a Gramophone Editor's Choice nomination in 1999. In November 2006, the quartet marked their fifteenth anniversary with The Beethoven Code, a project featuring the complete cycle of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets. Skalstad left the group in 2007 and was replaced by Liv Hilde Klokk in 2008. Their extensive discography includes Stenhammar: String Quartets Nos. 3-6, released in 2007, and the 2012 album The Schubert Connection. Magnus Boye Hansen joined the ensemble in 2018, and they released the archival project Archive in 2020.
