Os Tincoãs was a Brazilian popular music group originating from Bahia, Brazil, formed in the early 1960s and named after the Tincoã bird, a subspecies of the Squirrel Cuckoo native to the region. The ensemble, whose members included Mateus Aleluia, Badú, and Dadinho, emerged from the rich Candomblé traditions of Bahia. Their breakthrough came with the 1961 album Meu Ãltimo Bolero, establishing a distinctive sound that resonated across Brazil. Chronologically, the group released O Africanto Dos Tincoãs in 1975, followed by the 1977 EP Os Tincoãs, before producing the 1986 album Dadinho e Mateus with the duo of Mateus Aleluia and Dadinho. Dadinho passed away in Luanda in 2000. After a period of reduced activity, the group returned with the 2023 album Canto Coral Afrobrasileiro, a collection of recordings made four decades earlier that earned an honorable mention from the Associação Paulista de CrÃticos de Arte in its list of the 50 best Brazilian albums of 2023. The group's legacy remains a testament to Bahia's cultural heritage and the enduring appeal of AfroâBrazilian music.
