Original Concept, a rap group formed in Long Island, Newâ¯York in 1986, emerged from the campus radio station WBAU FM where its founding members-Doctorâ¯Dré, TâMoney, Rapperâ¯G, and Easyâ¯G-first performed under the name Concept Crew. Their breakthrough came with the single "Can You Feel It" released in 1986, which quickly became one of hipâhopâs most sampled tracks. In 1988 the group signed with Defâ¯Jam Records and issued their sole album, Straight From The Basement Of Kooley High!, featuring a cameo by Beastie Boys member Mikeâ¯D on the track "She's Got a Moustache" and samples from The Jacksonâ¯5, The Fat Boys, Runâ¯DMC, and PâFunk. The album consolidated their presence on the 1980s rap scene, though it did not chart in the top tiers. Subsequent releases, including the singles "Bite'n My Stylee" and "Charlie Sez", maintained underground popularity, and the groupâs work continued to influence emerging artists through extensive sampling in later years.
