Oppressor was a death metal band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1991 by Tim King and Adam Zadel. The group initially included guitarist Jim Stopper and drummer Tom Schofield. Their first demo, World Abomination, was released in 1991, followed by As Blood Flows in 1993, which secured them a record deal with Red Light Records. Their first full-length album, Solstice of Oppression, was released in 1994. After Red Light went bankrupt, the band released European Oppression Live + As Blood Flows through Megalithic Records and later signed with Olympic Recordings for their albums Agony (1996) and Elements of Corrosion (1998). In 1997, three members formed the alternative metal side project Soil. The band disbanded in 1999 as Soil gained more popularity.
