Onda Vaga, a Uruguayan-Argentinian music group formed in 2007 in Cabo Polonio, Uruguay, is known for their blend of folk with rumba, cumbia, reggae, and tango. The band consists of Ignacio RodrÃguez, Marcelo Blanco, Marcos Orellana, Tomás Justo Gaggero, and Germán Cohen. Their debut album Fuerte y caliente was released independently in 2008 and received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone. In 2009, they were invited by Manu Chao to open his shows in Buenos Aires and embarked on a successful European tour. Onda Vaga continued their international success with tours across Europe, Japan, and Latin America, including notable performances at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2012 and Lollapalooza in 2014. Their album Magma Elemental, released in August 2013, reached second place on Tower Records Japan's World Music chart. In 2018, they released Nuestras Canciones, an album featuring covers of various artists.
