Biography

Four Men and a Dog is an Irish folk music group formed in the early 1990s during the Belfast Folk Festival. The band is known for blending traditional Irish music with genres such as blues, rock, bluegrass, swing, salsa, and rap. Their debut album, Barking Mad (1991), won the Folk Roots magazine award for Best Album of the Year. Original members included Mick Daly, Gino Lupari, Donal Murphy, Brian McGrath, and Cathal Hayden. In 1993, Kevin Doherty and Gerry O'Connor replaced Daly and McGrath, respectively, for the release of Shifting Gravel. In 1995, the band recorded Doctor A's Secret Remedies at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, collaborating with members of The Band, including Helm, Rick Danko, and Garth Hudson.
