Biography

Omar Akram, born on November 23, 1964, in New York City, is an Afghan-American producer, composer, and pianist. Growing up as the son of a United Nations diplomat, Akram traveled extensively, living in various countries, including Prague, Havana, and Afghanistan. In 1993, he moved to Los Angeles where he performed in Mainstream Top 40 bands while writing his own music. His first commercial album release was Opal Fire (2002), which reached Billboard's New Age Top 15 Chart. Akram signed with Real Music in 2002 and released several critically acclaimed albums, including Free as a Bird (2004) and Secret Journey (2007). His album Echoes of Love (2012), produced by Gregg Karukas, won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 2014. Akram's subsequent albums include Daytime Dreamer (2013) and Destiny (2019). His most recent album, Moments of Beauty (2023), was nominated for Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album at the Grammy Awards in 2024.
