Olaf Rupp, born in 1963 in Saarlouis, Germany, is a guitarist known for his work in New Improvisational Music. He began playing guitar at age twelve and is self-taught. In the early 1990s, he performed improvised pop music with drummer Hanno Leichtmann and later with Stephan Mathieu. Rupp moved to Berlin in 1993, collaborating with musicians like Rudi Mahall and Paul Lovens. His first solo album, September, was released on the GROB label in 1998. Notable releases include Life Science (2000) and Whiteout (2009). Rupp has toured with artists such as John Zorn and Paul Lovens, performing across Europe, Russia, and Japan. He is recognized for his unique guitar technique inspired by Chinese Pipa players.
