Biography

Oaktown's 357 was an American rap group formed in 1987 in Oakland, California, under the guidance of MC Hammer and signed to Bust It Records and Capitol Records; the trio-Sweet L.D. (Suhayla Sabir), Lil P (Phyllis Charles), and Terrible T (Tabatha Zee King‑Brooks)-originated as backup singers for Hammer before establishing their own identity. Their debut single, "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah", entered the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart at number 9, signaling their entry into the national scene, and was followed by the release of their first album, Wild & Loose, in 1989, which peaked at number 126 on the Billboard 200 and number 23 on the Top R&B Albums chart. In 1990 they issued the single "We Like It", and the 1991 album Fully Loaded added the tracks "It's Not Your Money" and "Honey", both contributing to the group’s visibility within the rap community. Throughout their brief career, Oaktown's 357 toured with MC Hammer and maintained a presence on the rap charts, but the group disbanded in 1992, concluding their active contribution to the genre without further releases.
