North Sea Gas, a Scottish folk music trio, was formed in 1980 and consisted of Dave Gilfillan, Grant Simpson and Ronnie MacDonald. Their music encompassed original compositions as well as arrangements of traditional Celtic and worldwide songs, primarily sung in English but occasionally in Scots or Gaelic. The band released their debut album Those So Dearly Held in 1981, followed by Spirit of the Banish (1982), Keltic Heritage (19910), and Scottish Destiny (1993). Subsequent albums include Schiehallion (1997), Dark Island (2002), Lochanside (2005), Glencoe Massacre and Rosslyn (both 2007), Edinburgh Toon (2009), Tak a Dram Afore Ye Go (2011), The Fire and the Passion of Scotland (2013) and Hearth & Homeland (2019).
