Born in Braunschweig, Germany on November 7, 1972, Nils Wogram is a trombonist, composer, and bandleader. He is considered one of the most important jazz musicians in Europe. He began playing the trombone at the age of 15, exploring both classical and jazz simultaneously. As a member of the National German Youth Big Band, he participated in classical competitions. At the age of 16, he was already forming his own bands. Between 1992 and 1994, he studied at the New School of New York City. His debut album, New York Conversations, was released in 1994, followed by Round Trip (1996) and Speedlife (1998). He moved back to Germany and attended the University of Cologne, graduating in 1999. He continued to release albums as well as collaborating with other musicians including the German Jazz Quintet Underkarl, Eugene Chadbourne, the Aki Takase Quintet, and others. In 2000, he formed the ensemble Root 70, who he has recorded several albums with. In 2010, he formed his own label, Nwog Records, and released several albums including Bright Lights (2020). In 2021, he released the album SongDreaming, a collaboration with Saadet Türköz.
